Nominations for Dzanc's Best of the Web

I just nominated three poems from my journal YB for Dzanc Books' Best of the Web: "the yearly anthology that compiles the best fiction, poetry and nonfiction published in online literary journals."

I loved everything in my YB so it was really hard to choose between them. It goes without saying that my selections reflect personal tastes and biases (as does the whole journal of course).

In choosing which poems to nominate I went for the ones that got me most on a gut level, and stayed with me. There was one other one that stood out for me as well - it was a tough decision to exclude this fourth one (nominations are limited to three), but hey, that's life.

So the poems I nominated are:

Rob Woodard's "Orange Crush."

Sean Patrick Hill's "Self Portrait as George Gisze."

Molly Gaudry's "Gratitude."

As it happens, two of the poems feature citrus fruit, and the other one has a certain thematic acidity.

The pic: The Puerto Vallarta Post Office, in its brand spanking new incarnation that I discussed in a recent post. I thought it would be appropriate to have a picture of where I would have to spend some serious time - probably in vain - if there were no online journals.
